SUMMARY:Aprons of Work: Voices of Value
DESCRIPTION:A collaborative textile exhibition exploring work\, care\, equality\, heritage and aspiration\n28 September – 19 December 2026\nCornwall Museum & Art Gallery\, Truro – Education Space\nArtist and inclusive arts practitioner Elaine Foster-Gandey presents Aprons of Work: Voices of Value\, a collaborative textile project created with young people from Torpoint Community College and Wave Academy Liskeard.\nThe exhibition brings together the voices\, ideas and creative responses of young people through the making and embellishment of aprons\, exploring what work means\, whose work is valued\, and how ideas around work and equality are changing.\nAt the heart of the exhibition is a large collaborative apron incorporating the students’ individual work\, alongside photography\, historic objects and material documenting the project.\nThe project draws on Cornwall’s rich working heritage\, including the lives and labour of bal maidens\, miners\, domestic workers and other working communities. Through workshops and discussion\, students explored both the visible and invisible labour that takes place in homes and communities\, considering questions of care\, responsibility\, equality and value.\nThe project also encouraged students to think about the future. Discussions explored aspirations\, careers and Cornwall’s continuing relationship with its natural resources\, including contemporary conversations around lithium mining.\nFor Elaine Foster-Gandey\, the apron is an important starting point for these conversations. Inspired partly by her own family history\, including her grandmother and great-aunts in East London who wore pinnies as part of everyday life and were highly skilled makers\, the project considers how an ordinary domestic object can carry stories about identity\, work\, family and social history.\nElaine said:\n“I wanted to use the humble apron as a way into conversations about work and value. Aprons have been worn by people in all kinds of occupations\, not simply in the home. Through making\, talking and sharing ideas\, the students have brought their own experiences and aspirations into that history.”\nThe project has engaged approximately 125 students\, with Year 8 students developing embellished textile aprons and Year 7 students responding to questions around future aspirations and the world of work. Students from Wave Academy Liskeard have also contributed to the wider project.\nThe resulting exhibition celebrates not only the finished artwork but also the voices\, conversations\, relationships and creative process behind it.\nAprons of Work: Voices of Value reflects the importance of creative learning in helping young people explore their heritage\, develop confidence and express their ideas about the future.\nThe exhibition is presented at Cornwall Museum & Art Gallery from 28 September to 19 December 2026.\nAbout Elaine Foster-Gandey\nElaine Foster-Gandey is an artist\, textile practitioner\, inclusive arts practitioner\, educator and curator based in Cornwall. Her socially engaged practice uses textiles\, making and collaborative processes to explore identity\, community\, heritage\, belonging and social history.\nHer previous project Hope – Weaving Communities Together brought together schools and communities through a large-scale collaborative textile artwork and was exhibited internationally\, including in Venice.

SUMMARY:The Unravelling Wilburys
DESCRIPTION:Now hear this\, y’all… Rumour has it the Wilbury brothers wuz plyin’ their trade one night in Tootsie’s Bar\, Nashville\, when they spotted George Harrison from The Beatles and his pal\, Jeff Lynne outta the ELO in the crowd. Seems George & Jeff wuz lovin’ the show cuz they called up some friends to come along. Them friends wuz Roy Orbison\, Tom Petty outta The Heartbreakers\, and that Bobby Dylan himself. \nAfter a night partyin’ n’ drinkin’\, the boys allegedly decided they should all work together. Six months on\, the Wilburys had heard nuthin’. Then it seems they heard their own music comin’ out of a record store. It wuz a new supergroup\, callin’ ‘emselves The Traveling Wilburys. \nYes folks\, it seems the Traveling Wilburys became a tribute band to our home-spun originals! \nAfter a lot of years\, The Unravelling Wilburys decided to ‘reclaim’ their songs\, puttin’ together a set of all the hits and the best stuff Dylan\, Petty\, Orbison\, Lynne and Harrison could muster between ‘em. Then they headed for the UK\, where the folks ain’t got much of a clue about Country music and took to ‘em right away. They’ve been here ever since. \nWith a perfect mix of superb musicianship and comedy\, the UNRAVELLING WILBURYS are brothers ‘Sticky’ Willy\, Walter\, Thumper\, Blind Melon and Honky Tonk\, who tell their unique story on how they became a tribute band. Now so popular that they even got to be a question on that TV show “The Chase”\, the boys get to spend their time travelling all over the UK\, from the Orkney Islands to the Isle of Wight; from Penzance to Perth; from Southwold to South Wales; getting rave reviews and packing out theatres along the way in towns whose names they’ve never heard of and can’t pronounce. \nThe show features the best of the Wilbury albums (‘Handle With Care’; ‘The End of The Line’; ‘The Devil’s Been Busy’; ‘Tweeter & The Monkeyman’) and some of their supposedly thievin’ counterparts’ numbers like ‘Refugee’; ‘While my Guitar Gently Weeps’; ‘Like a Rollin Stone’; ‘Only the Lonely’ and ‘Mr. Blue Sky’. The act also contains the kind of comedy only a band spending far too many nights in Travelodge hotels could dream up. \nSo- turn off your hearing aid\, put your Zimmer frame to one side and prepare for a great night out. It’s a journey you ain’t gonna forget in a hurry!
