SUMMARY:C. Saint-Saens - Opera 'Samson et Dalila'
DESCRIPTION:Semi-staged performance of C. Saint-Saens’ Opera ‘Samson et Dalila'(in French\, with a piano accompaniment) by Exeter Opera Group. \nSamson et Dalila is a three-act opera by Camille Saint-Saëns\, based on the biblical story from the Book of Judges. The Israelites are oppressed by the Philistines\, and their leader Samson inspires them to resist their enemies. The Philistine priestess Dalila seeks to discover the secret of Samson’s extraordinary strength. Using her charm and persuasion\, she wins his trust and learns that his power lies in his uncut hair. After Dalila betrays him\, Samson is captured\, blinded\, and imprisoned by the Philistines. In the opera’s dramatic conclusion\, Samson calls upon God to restore his strength one last time and destroys the Philistine temple\, sacrificing himself as he defeats his enemies.

SUMMARY:The Unravelling Wilburys
DESCRIPTION:Now hear this\, y’all… Rumour has it the Wilbury brothers wuz plyin’ their trade one night in Tootsie’s Bar\, Nashville\, when they spotted George Harrison from The Beatles and his pal\, Jeff Lynne outta the ELO in the crowd. Seems George & Jeff wuz lovin’ the show cuz they called up some friends to come along. Them friends wuz Roy Orbison\, Tom Petty outta The Heartbreakers\, and that Bobby Dylan himself. \nAfter a night partyin’ n’ drinkin’\, the boys allegedly decided they should all work together. Six months on\, the Wilburys had heard nuthin’. Then it seems they heard their own music comin’ out of a record store. It wuz a new supergroup\, callin’ ‘emselves The Traveling Wilburys. \nYes folks\, it seems the Traveling Wilburys became a tribute band to our home-spun originals! \nAfter a lot of years\, The Unravelling Wilburys decided to ‘reclaim’ their songs\, puttin’ together a set of all the hits and the best stuff Dylan\, Petty\, Orbison\, Lynne and Harrison could muster between ‘em. Then they headed for the UK\, where the folks ain’t got much of a clue about Country music and took to ‘em right away. They’ve been here ever since. \nWith a perfect mix of superb musicianship and comedy\, the UNRAVELLING WILBURYS are brothers ‘Sticky’ Willy\, Walter\, Thumper\, Blind Melon and Honky Tonk\, who tell their unique story on how they became a tribute band. Now so popular that they even got to be a question on that TV show “The Chase”\, the boys get to spend their time travelling all over the UK\, from the Orkney Islands to the Isle of Wight; from Penzance to Perth; from Southwold to South Wales; getting rave reviews and packing out theatres along the way in towns whose names they’ve never heard of and can’t pronounce. \nThe show features the best of the Wilbury albums (‘Handle With Care’; ‘The End of The Line’; ‘The Devil’s Been Busy’; ‘Tweeter & The Monkeyman’) and some of their supposedly thievin’ counterparts’ numbers like ‘Refugee’; ‘While my Guitar Gently Weeps’; ‘Like a Rollin Stone’; ‘Only the Lonely’ and ‘Mr. Blue Sky’. The act also contains the kind of comedy only a band spending far too many nights in Travelodge hotels could dream up. \nSo- turn off your hearing aid\, put your Zimmer frame to one side and prepare for a great night out. It’s a journey you ain’t gonna forget in a hurry!

SUMMARY:On Your Bike Baffo!
DESCRIPTION:OH! Productions are excited to be bringing their brand-new show to Weston Super Mare this autumn with On Your Bike Baffo!\, a joyful new family show for ages 3–8. Packed with comic mishaps\, playful surprises and plenty of audience involvement\, the show follows one clown who tries to reach the finish line\, but can’t help getting joyfully distracted by everything he discovers along the way. \nDressed head-to-toe in cycling gear and full of boundless optimism\, the hapless\, innocent Baffo arrives determined to get on his bike and complete one very important challenge. The only problem? He doesn’t seem entirely sure what he’s doing or where his bike is…. \nAs mysterious objects emerge from a box marked with nothing more than a picture of a bicycle\, every discovery leads to fresh comic chaos. With the help of live music\, plenty of audience participation and an ever-growing collection of increasingly ridiculous props\,\nBaffo painstakingly transforms the box and all the bits into a bicycle of his own invention\, before discovering\, with the help of the crowd\, that the answer has been right in front of him all along. \nInspired by Harrison’s own love of cycling\, and memories of teaching his daughters to ride a bike\, On Your Bike Baffo! draws on a childhood experience familiar to so many families. While Baffo’s journey is filled with spectacular mishaps\, his unwavering optimism\, determination and eagerness to please remind audiences that sometimes getting things wrong can be every bit as joyful as getting them right. \nThe live music\, performed and composed by Tom Penn\, effectively becomes another performer in the show. Tom responds to Baffo’s action\, using instruments to help drive the comedy\, creating a dialogue between the two and reinforcing the feeling that everyone is in this together. \nSuitable for children aged 3-8 and their families\, On Your Bike Baffo! is a celebration of imagination\, perseverance and collective joy.

In a post-truth world punctuated by conspiracy\, division and collapse\, it’s time to forgive… yourself. \nHealing King Herod reached critical acclaim at its Edinburgh run\, following its preview at Soho Theatre and sell out run at VAULT Festival 2023. It was nominated Show of the Week and the recipient of Phoebe Waller Bridge’s Keep it Fringe fund. The world has changed a lot since then. He is a winner of BBC Words First and has headlined stages around the UK and abroad. He has written an ACE-funded short film\, and had his writing featured by BBC 1xtra\, BBC Bitesize\, Apples and Snakes\, the Institute of Physics and many more. SUMMARY:The Rooted Work
DESCRIPTION:Some of the most important change begins beneath the surface. \nLike the roots of a tree\, the foundations of creativity\, resilience and connection are often unseen\, yet they sustain everything that follows. This experience invites you to explore those foundations through one of humanity’s oldest creative practices: carving wood by hand.\nYour time. Your making. \nSet within St Nicholas Priory — the oldest building in Exeter — you will spend two days working with simple hand tools\, natural materials and fellow participants in a shared process of making. No previous experience is required. Only curiosity\, imagination and a willingness to discover. \nWoodcarving asks for something increasingly rare in modern life: undivided attention. As your hands engage with the shape and form of the wood\, conversation quietens\, thinking becomes clearer and creativity begins to emerge naturally. The act of carving becomes more than making an object — it becomes a way of noticing\, reflecting and connecting. \nThis is not simply a craft workshop. It is a carefully facilitated experience that uses ancient skills as contemporary social tools — creating space for deeper conversations\, fresh perspectives and meaningful connection. Whether you come as an individual seeking renewal or as part of a leadership team exploring how to navigate change together\, the experience offers an opportunity to slow down\, create with intention and rediscover the value of making something by hand. \nYou will leave with a carved piece of your own\, but perhaps more importantly\, with a renewed appreciation of what can emerge when people gather with time\, attention and purpose. \nIn a world that asks us constantly to move faster\, Rooted invites you to grow differently.
