Camille Saint-Saëns’ Samson et Dalila is famous mainly for its beautiful, expressive music, especially Dalila’s aria “Mon cœur s’ouvre à ta voix”, one of the most celebrated mezzo-soprano arias in opera. The work combines powerful drama, rich orchestration, exotic colors, and memorable melodies. Its story of love, betrayal, and revenge, based on the biblical tale of Samson and Delilah, also gives it strong emotional and theatrical appeal. Today, it remains one of the most frequently performed French operas.
